Welcome to our school website. I’m delighted to introduce you to our vibrant and caring school community.
At St. Lorcan’s, we believe that every child deserves a joyful, inclusive, and enriching educational experience. Our dedicated staff work together to create a nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.
At our school, boys engage with a broad and balanced curriculum that prioritises high-quality teaching and learning. Every pupil is given the opportunity to thrive across a wide range of subjects, fostering both academic and personal success. Central to our ethos is the holistic development of each individual. We are committed to equipping our boys with the essential life skills they need to confidently and meaningfully contribute to society.
Student Voice is central to life at St. Lorcan’s. We actively promote pupil leadership through our Student Council, I.T Committee, Active Schools Committee, and Green Schools Committee. Elected by their peers, these student representatives work alongside staff to shape school policies and initiatives, ensuring that pupil perspectives are heard and valued.
We are proud to be an Active School. Our Active Schools Committee organises yard games for younger pupils and helps coordinate our annual Active Week each June—a highlight of the school calendar. Over five energetic days, pupils enjoy a wide range of sports and activities including athletics, rugby, golf, gymnastics, orienteering, and inflatable obstacle courses, culminating in dedicated Junior and Senior Sports Days.
Extra-curricular life at St. Lorcan’s is rich and varied. We offer a wide selection of clubs and activities including Homework Club, Lego Club, Drama Club, and various sports clubs.
Sport plays a central role in life at St. Lorcan’s, helping our pupils develop teamwork, resilience, and a love of physical activity. We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities that cater to different interests and abilities, both on and off the field. We’re fortunate to have training sessions with a Leinster Rugby coach. We enjoy strong links with local clubs such as St. Pat’s GAA and St. Pat’s Athletic FC.
Our school teams proudly take part in Cumann na mBunscol competitions, representing St. Lorcan’s with skill and spirit. We have strong ties with our local GAA club, St. Pat’s, and many of our pupils continue their sporting journey there. Gaelic football and hurling are introduced in the younger classes and developed through regular coaching and matches.
We’re also passionate about soccer, with pupils participating in local leagues and friendly matches. Our connection with St. Pat’s Athletic Football Club provides additional opportunities for coaching and development, and our boys love representing the school in tournaments.
A unique highlight for our Sixth Class pupils is weekly rowing on the River Liffey. This experience not only builds physical strength and coordination but also fosters teamwork and confidence in a truly memorable setting.
Our 5th Classes take part in a 7 week programme learning all about cycling safety on our roads.
For those who prefer strategic thinking to physical competition, our chess programme is thriving. Pupils take part in tournaments and enjoy lunchtime and after-school sessions that sharpen their focus and problem-solving skills.
Environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of our ethos. In 2023, we installed 26 solar panels and an EV charger to support our growing commitment to sustainability. As an All-Ireland winning Green School, we take pride in our environmental achievements and are currently working towards earning the Biodiversity Flag. Our pupils also led the way in the WEEE Ireland Battery Recycling Competition 2023–24, collecting approximately 22,000 batteries. This initiative not only supports environmental protection but also contributes to WEEE Ireland’s partnership with LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
Our annual Mad Hatters Walk is a beloved tradition. Held on the Friday before the Easter holidays, this creative fundraiser showcases the boys’ incredible hat designs—often weeks or months in the making—and helps support ongoing improvements within our school.
We are deeply grateful for our vibrant and dedicated Parents’ Association. Their support enriches school life through events such as the Book Fair, Christmas Bake Sale, visiting magicians, movie days, and much more.
Finally, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to our Board of Management, staff, pupils, and parents for their unwavering commitment to St. Lorcan’s. Together, we continue to build a school community that is inclusive, active, and full of heart.
Warm regards,
Sinéad Greally
