Visit from An Garda Síochána
Our pupils really enjoyed a visit from An Garda Síochána, who taught us all about their job and how they help keep people safe. They also explained some important Halloween safety tips to help everyone enjoy the celebrations safely.
Recently, 5th Class had the opportunity to take part in a block of tag rugby sessions with a visiting coach. Throughout the programme, pupils were introduced to the fundamental skills of tag rugby in a fun, inclusive and active environment.
The block of tag rugby provided an excellent opportunity for 5th Class to improve their fitness, learn new skills and enjoy being active. The pupils showed great enthusiasm and engagement throughout, and it was wonderful to see their skills and confidence grow from session to session.
Recently, our class enjoyed a wonderful visit to Palmerstown Library, where the children had the opportunity to explore all that the library has to offer. The pupils were excited to browse the shelves and were particularly delighted by the wide range of new and interesting books available.
During the visit, the children learned about how the library works and how to care for books responsibly. One of the highlights of the trip was that each child had the chance to choose and check out their own library book, which they were thrilled to bring home and enjoy.
We were very lucky to welcome a visiting scientist to our class recently, who delivered an exciting Pharmaceutical Technician Workshop.
During the workshop, the children stepped into the role of pharmaceutical technicians, working in the laboratory of a pharmaceutical factory. Their task was to test an ointment designed to treat wasp stings and to determine how much ointment was needed to effectively “fix” the sting.
Through hands-on investigation, the pupils were introduced to important scientific concepts such as creating a control sample, understanding acid and base chemistry, and carrying out simple titrations. The workshop gave the children a real insight into what it is like to work in a laboratory environment, encouraging careful observation, teamwork and problem-solving.
It was a fantastic learning experience that brought science to life in a fun and meaningful way.
Our class recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to Palmerstown Library, where we took part in a fun and creative kite-making workshop. During the session, we used simple materials like paper, wooden sticks, and colourful crepe paper to design and build our own kites.
Everyone showed great creativity, choosing bright colours and unique patterns to make their kites stand out. The workshop leader guided us step by step, helping us learn how to carefully construct and decorate our kites.
We recently had a very exciting visit from two local Gardaí, who came to our school to tell us all about their important work in the community. They arrived with their Garda vehicles, which the class was very excited to see up close.
During the visit, the Gardaí showed us a range of equipment they use in their daily duties. We had the chance to look at and even try out some of the items, which was a fantastic hands-on experience for everyone.
Our class showed great creativity with their Mad Hatters Hats.
Our class winners.
