The boys and I had the opportunity to visit the Dead Zoo Lab in Collins Barracks. During refurbishment works, the Dead Zoo has moved some of its exhibits to Collins Barracks, where a wide range of animals and skeletons are on display. It was fascinating to see so many different animals, and the boys had lots of questions for our tour guide!
As part of our work learning about the Titanic and buoyancy, the boys were challenged to create their own boats and test them out to see if they could float. It took lots of planning, experimenting, collecting materials and evaluating their creations. Many of them were very successful!
Science Workshop
A scientist visited our class recently and taught us all about acids, bases, and how to test liquids using indicator. It was really interesting and gave the boys a taste of what science will be like in secondary school!
Before the mid-term break, the boys had the chance to attend a Marionette show. This was performed by the Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre and it was very entertaining. They also showed the 6th class boys how it worked behind the scenes, which was really interesting! Thanks to Ms Devine for organising it!
We also tried a STEM Challenge during maths week. We attempted to try to build the tallest structure that we could using only spaghetti and marshmallows. It took a lot of trial and error to make the towers.
As part of Maths Week this year, the class worked hard to create their own maths board games for the senior infant class. They made them, tested them out and then taught the senior infants how to play the games. Both classes had fun!
The boys also had a visit from magician Colm Dawson. He told us all about how maths plays a big part in many of his magic tricks. Some of the boys have even learned a trick or two from him!
Some of the boys have been attending rowing lessons at the Dublin Municipal Rowing Centre. They have been developing their skills really well over the few weeks of lessons; learning co-operation, co-ordination, teamwork and getting some exercise!
