Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all our families.

Dear Parents/Guardians

I hope you and your family are well. We hope 2023 will be a good year for you and for all of us in the St. Lorcan’s BNS Community.

You will be aware that Flu, Covid-19 and RSV are still circulating in the community and putting pressure on the health services.

Chief Medical Officer, Professor Breda Smyth issued a statement yesterday morning, Wednesday, January 4th, urging parents 'to be vigilant for symptoms of respiratory viruses in children.'

For your information, Professor Smyth included the following guidelines for parents:

"If your child has any new-onset flu-like symptoms, such as congestion, cough, runny nose or high temperature, parents should continue to be mindful of others and, if possible, keep their children at home from school or childcare facilities.

"Children should be kept at home for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have fully or substantially resolved."

At school, we will continue with handwashing and hand-sanitising. We will also ventilate classrooms at break-times and if necessary, at other times during the day for 5-10mins, being mindful of the cold weather and the importance of keeping a comfortable temperature in the classroom for children to enjoy learning activities.

Thank you for your continued support.
