October Update

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone associated with the St. Lorcan’s B.N.S school community for a very successful start to the new school year. The pupils have settled very well into their school routine and this augurs very well for the year ahead.

There is much look to forward to this year in St. Lorcan’s B.N.S, including many fun and exciting activities taking place both during and after school. These include, Music Club, Athletics, Green Schools, GAA coaching, Homework Club, Lego Club, Active Flag as well as our recently elected Student Council. We also await the return of Mr. Egan’s renowned Gardening Club this autumn.

I wish to extend a warm St. Lorcan’s welcome to all the new pupils who enrolled in our school in September, including our two new Junior Infant classes, comprising of 46 boys in total. I am extremely proud of the efforts made by the existing classes to make our new Junior Infants welcome in their new surroundings.

I am delighted to announce that work is currently underway regarding the establishment of an up-to-date Information Technology hub within the school. In the coming months, we hope to have set up approximately seventeen modern desk-top computers to be connected to a high-spec colour printer. The new computers will also be equipped with internet access. These computers will, no doubt, be a huge addition to the learning and research facilities within the school. Thanks to Ms. Bracken and our caretaker William, for their work in setting up the I.T. facilities.

The school received a boost over the summer, with an increase in our mainstream teaching allocation from 14 to 15 class teachers. This was as a result of increased enrolment numbers. Our Learning Support team remains unchanged with 6 teachers. The extra appointment in the mainstream setting has resulted in the un-splitting of Fourth and Fifth Class into separate groupings. A special welcome to our four new members of staff. Ms. Aoife Hodgins (2nd/3rd split), Mr. Stephen Farrell (5th Class), Mr. Gerard O’Connell (6th Class) and Ms. Nicole Scully (SNA). Also, welcome back Ms. Purtill (2nd/3rd Split). Our new staff members have already made a very positive contribution to St. Lorcan’s B.N.S.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and productive school year.

Le gach dea-ghuí, Mr. Moore Principal
