Dear Parents and Guardians,

Meeting for parents of Junior and Senior Infants:

On Wednesday 28th September at 9am we will hold an information meeting in the hall for parents of Junior Infants. At this meeting we will discuss daily routines, attendance, parental involvement and Jolly Phonics. Our Educational Welfare Officer will attend to talk about the importance of school attendance. A representative from our Parents’ Association will attend to discuss the role of parents in the school. Any interested parents from senior infants are very welcome to attend. We hope to see you there.

Palmerstown Primary Schools

Parents’ Association, AGM,

Thursday 29th September @ 8pm

St. Brigid’s School Hall

We hope to see you there.

Student Council:

The Student Council is made up of two representatives from each class from 4th to 6th. We are very excited to announce that elections for our Student Council will take place on Friday 30th September. Campaigning will begin next week, with the first meeting on October 4th.  The Student Council will have an important role in providing the pupils with a voice in the school. Many thanks to Mr Keogan and Ms Gorham for their enthusiasm and involvement with the Student Council.

GAA:

Our senior GAA team are playing against Holy Rosary in St Anne’s GAA club in Tallaght. Best of luck! Thank you to Ms Fogarty, Ms Mc Loughlin and Mr Phelan for all their generous time in training the team.

Finishing time:

The school day ends at 1:30 pm for infants and 2:30pm for the rest of the school. We request and urge parents not to disturb the learning environment before that time. It is important that children are not distracted by the gathering of parents and younger children. We have noticed significant numbers of parents and younger children gathering for long periods before finishing time which does impact the learning environment for our pupils. Also teachers would like complete access to all the yard until 2:25pm for outdoor lessons, P.E etc.  Thank you for your help in this matter.

Code of Positive Behaviour:

We are redrafting our Code of Positive Behaviour at present. Many thanks to all the teachers involved. The first draft will go to the Parents Association and Student Council for consultation before ratification by our Board of Management.

WOW/COW/SOW:

We encourage as many of you as possible to walk, cycle or scoot to school on Wednesdays. It has been fantastic to see so many of the boys walking, cycling and scooting since we have returned to school. Keep it up!

Uniform:

It is great to see all the boys wearing the correct uniform to school each day.  Hairpieces and hair dye  are not in keeping with the dress code for a primary school. Thank you for your support in this regard.

Le dea-ghuí,

Julie Dowd
