Principal's Welcome

Welcome to St. Lorcan's BNS. I hope you will find this website useful and that it will enhance your knowledge of our wonderful school.

St. Lorcan’s Boys' National School is a boys’ vertical school (Junior Infants to 6th Class), situated off the N4 in Palmerstown, Dublin 20. Although our school follows a Catholic Ethos, we welcome children of all faiths and none. We promote a caring and nurturing environment for all our pupils and we continually strive to help each child in our school to be the best that they can be.

Student Voice within our school is a huge priority. We have a Student Council, an I.T Committee, Active Schools Committee and a Green Schools Committee. Students on these committees, elected by their peers, collaborate with staff, informing school policy in these areas.

To support our ever-growing commitment to a greener environment, we installed 26 solar panels and an EV charger in 2023. St. Lorcan's has always been passionate about our environment and we are dedicated to maintaining our proud reputation as an All-Ireland winning Green School. This year, we are working towards winning the Biodiversity Flag

We were the winners of the WEEE Ireland Battery Recycling Competition 2023-24, in the Large Primary School Category. Our pupils collected approximately 22,000 batteries for recycling, which is helping to protect our environment, as well as helping WEEE Ireland's support of LauraLynn, Ireland's Children's Hospice.

We are also an Active School. Our Active Schools Committee oversee yard games with the younger classes during the break times. Every June we have an Active Week, when the boys get to experience a jam-packed 5 days of different sports and activities. Some of the sports include athletics, rugby, golf, gymnastics, orienteering, inflatable obstacle course, as well as dedicated Junior and Senior sports days.

St. Lorcan's BNS offers lots of extra-curricular activities, which include a homework club, Lego club and sports clubs.

The Sixth Class boys enjoy rowing on the River Liffey every Friday morning. Our school teams take-part in Cumann na mBunscol, football leagues, chess tournaments and more. We have a Leinster Rugby coach who visits the school once a week. We are affiliated with our local St. Pat's GAA Club, as well as St. Pat's Athletic Football Club.

Our annual Mad Hatters Walk takes place the Friday of the Easter holidays each year. The boys always astound us with their incredible  hat creations which they spend weeks, if not months, making at home. This event is a fundraising activity which supports the improvements we make within our school.

We are lucky to have such an active and supportive Parents' Association. They organise and run many different events, such as the Book Fair, the Christmas Bake Sale, magicians, movies at St. Lorcan's and much more. The "Hell & Back" challenge last June was a great opportunity for staff and parents alike to get together, have fun (despite the enormity of the challenge!), while raising much needed funds for the school. A huge thank you to all who participated.

The Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion will take place in St. Philomena's Parish Church this May.

I would like to thank our Board of Management, staff, pupils and parents for their continued commitment and support to St. Lorcan's.

Le meas,

Sinéad Greally
