Ms Burke's 6th Class
Well Done to Evan & Kamil who have won pupil of the week so far!!
A big congratulations to Rory who won 1st place in the chess competition between the 5th and 6th classes!!
Here in sixth class, we have been working really hard on our creative writing. The boys came up with such good and creative Halloween stories that they all made it onto our Wow Work board.
For Halloween, we learnt about Edvard Munch and his painting called 'The Scream'. The boys did an excellent job using oil pastels to recreate his painting.
Maths week was a great success in our classroom this year. The boys enjoyed taking part in many activities such as the 'Car Park Trail' and playing darts to help them with the topic of averages.
We have finally finished our first novel in sixth class this year called 'Wonder'. The boys have done great work learning & writing about different precepts, writing about their favourite characters and doing their own book review.
One of the big perks of 6th class is getting the chance to go rowing on Friday morning in Islandbridge! Our class started this week, 5th of November, and 8 boys got the chance to go and practice their rowing skills and techniques and row down the water!! The instructors were very impressed with all the boys.
The boys are also taking part in "Run a Marathon" initiative where we are running a marathon over 8 weeks. The boys are really enjoying this and they are all noticing a difference in their fitness levels.
Science Week
7th Nov - 14th
During Science Week, we had great fun with our bread mould experiment!! Tasting to see how many germs and bacteria we can carry during different situations. As you can see from the results, quiet disgusting!!
We also had great fun making our own paper aeroplane spinners and trying to make them fly. Each time we would cut off some of their wings to see how that would affect the flying. We had some competitions to see who's could spin the fastest!
A big Well Done to Kailin McKevitt for winning the Principals award for November, A great achievement.
One thing the boys are working really hard on is their Gaeilge. During the theme of "Sa Bhaile", they did some excellent work to help them understand some words and they all worked really hard on this theme.
On Friday the 3rd of December, we finally got to the day where we finished our "Run a Marathon" challenge. We ran a total of 42k and not a bother to the boys.
